On the podcast:
This week I’m talking to Kristen Yoder, recently featured in Marijuana Venture Magazine’s 40 under 40 Rising Stars of Cannabis, is a 13 year California cannabis industry veteran and radio personality who has managed successful businesses in every sector of the industry, and now serves as a strategic advisor for entrepreneurs and investors entering the cannabis industry in California. She has a Meetup group, Soil to the Oil: Cannabis Science Classes, in Los Angeles, where she does monthly terpene training, trichome viewing sessions, and other fun cannabis science-related gatherings. You can catch her on Notes From The Underground, on 89.1 FM KNSJ San Diego, every Friday night at 7p (PST), and starting in August, she will be releasing her new podcast, The CannaBS Detector, where she speaks to experts about the common scams and pitfalls investors, entrepreneur and companies will inevitably encounter in the cannabis industry.
In our chat, Kristen and I dig into her road from hair dresser to modern cannabis renaissance woman; Her experience working in cannabis during the non-reg years; What makes a trusted budtender and dispensary experience; Shysters in and coming into the industry just for the money; Operational considerations every canna business should be making; Sexism, harassment and major shady shit happening in cannabis that’s not talked or written about in the mainstream pubs; And her upcoming podcast topics (sizzling hot!), which I’m so excited for! Kristen doesn't tell you what you want to hear, but what you need to hear, to protect yourself and your investments. Tune in to our chat now!
Powerhouse. Writer & Culture Critic, Jamilah Lemieux, has joined Cynthia Nixon's Gubernatorial campaign as Communications and Engagement Advisor. "Even though I had no particular desire to work in and around politics, I was immediately drawn to Cynthia’s campaign for her stance on the legalization of marijuana, which is an issue very close to my heart. I am both a medical marijuana patient living with a chronic injury and someone who sees marijuana as a critical issue of racial justice." TheRoot
She says. Female canna execs share their thoughts on the recentCannabis Trends Report highlighting the rise of women in the industry. "For women in cannabis, it has become a badge of honor to know that within their new burgeoning industry ready to take the globe by storm, they hold the largest percentage of ownership, management and control of any industry in the world for their gender. Therefore upon recognition of the possibility of losing that title, the women have begun to band together and work toward the goal of making cannabis the first industry in the world to achieve 50% female control.” Benzinga
Good use. Tennessee’s Republican House speaker, Beth Harwell, is running for Governor. Harwell has shared her support for legalizing medical marijuana in her latest ad, along with a 2015 clip President Donald Trump saying "I think medical should happen, don't we agree?" while on the campaign trail." Essentials. Oregon lawyer, Amy Margolis, is opening a women's co-working space (the Commune) and business accelerator (the Initiative) to help women thrive in the cannabis industry. "The most important thing we'll do here is teach people how to raise money. It's the first accelerator in the country dedicated to women-owned cannabis businesses. The hope is that many of these women will receive significant funding." WWeek
Her in mind. Top women in cannabis retail and branding share what dispensaries can do to appeal to the female consumer and create a more inclusive experience. HighTimes
